About Figure-8 Blank
A spectacle blind, also known as a figure 8 blind line blank, is a type of piping component used in industrial applications. It consists of a solid metal disk with a hole in the center, shaped like a figure 8. The spectacle blind is placed between two flanges in a pipeline and is used to temporarily block the flow of fluid or isolate a section of the pipeline.
The spectacle blind has two positions: "open" and "closed." In the open position, the hole in the center aligns with the pipeline, allowing the fluid to flow freely. In the closed position, the solid metal disk blocks the flow completely, preventing the fluid from passing through.
The main purpose of a spectacle blind is to provide a positive and visible means of identifying the status of a pipeline. By simply looking at the position of the spectacle blind, workers can determine whether the pipeline is open or closed without relying on instrumentation or complicated procedures.
Figure 8 Blanks are commonly used in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation, where there is a need to isolate sections of pipelines for maintenance, repairs, or safety reasons. They are often used in conjunction with valves to provide a double block and bleed system, ensuring a higher level of safety during maintenance activities.
